Your Consumer Rights

Your Rights as a Bank Customer

As a depositor at a KDIC member institution, you have a range of legal rights under Kenyan law. These rights are protected by multiple pieces of legislation and enforced by the Central Bank of Kenya and other regulators.

  • Right to be informed about all fees, charges, and terms before signing any agreement
  • Right to transparent and accurate statements of your account
  • Right to fair, non-discriminatory treatment from your bank
  • Right to lodge a complaint against your bank with the institution itself or with the CBK
  • Right to know whether your deposits are insured by KDIC
  • Right to receive your insured deposits promptly when a bank fails

The Central Bank of Kenya's Consumer Protection Framework and the Kenya Deposit Insurance Act, 2012 work together to protect you as a depositor.
